El Calafate is a small and charming town lost in the immensity of the Patagonian steppe, it is the main doorway to the wonderful Glaciers Park, a beautiful landscape of icy waters, white-capped mountains and windswept heathlands, of awe-inspiring glaciers and silent moss-clad woods. Set down on the edge of a vast lake, the town is a touristic base for the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. The town, surrounded by the beautiful Lago Argentino and snow-capped mountain scenery, is full of cute tourist shops and restaurants that line the main street. Perito Moreno Glacier, 80km away from the town, is a magnificent must-see. It is considered one of the world’s most stunning glaciers.
